[0234] To a stirred solution of (S)-4-amino-2-((tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino)-4- oxobutanoic acid (2.0 g, 8.6 mmol) in THF (10 mL) and MeOH (10 mL) at 0 oC was added (trimethylsilyl)diazomethane solution (2 M in hexane, 6.5 mL) dropwise. The mixture was stirred at 0 oC for 1 hour then concentrated to give (S)-methyl 4-amino-2-((tert- butoxycarbonyl)amino)-4-oxobutanoate (crude) as a colorless oil.
