As an important pharmaceutical and chemical raw material, shikimic acid can be applied to the treatment of various diseases:

1. Antibacterial and anti-tumor properties

Shikimic acid derivatives have antibacterial and anti-tumor effects.

2. Anti-thrombotic formation

The effects of shikimic acid and its derivatives on the cardiovascular system are manifested in their anti-thrombotic and inhibitory effects on platelet aggregation.

3. Anti cerebral ischemia

Shikimic acid and its derivatives have the effect of improving cerebral ischemia, mainly manifested in reducing the volume of cerebral infarction after focal cerebral ischemia in rats, reducing neurological function scores, reducing the degree of cerebral edema, and increasing cerebral blood flow in the ischemic area.

At present, shikimic acid is mainly used as one of the main raw materials for synthesizing the therapeutic drug Tamiflu for avian influenza.
