Apigenin is a naturally occurring flavonoid, which exists in the form of plant yellow pigment in many plants.

Apigenin- was mainly derived from the umbelliferaceae plant Xerophyllum. It was also found in other plants such as chamomile, honeybee flower, Perilla, verbena and yarrow. Chamomile is native to Britain and is grown in Germany, France and Morocco. The Roman chamomile and the German chamomile have many characteristics in common: about 30 cm tall, yellow in the center, white flowers, and slightly hairy leaves. Chamomile has been shown to help patients sleep, relieve inflammation and pain symptoms, and relieve insomnia caused by nervous itchy skin. It is also widely cultivated in China for medicinal use and tea production. Apigenin is one of the ingredients in herbal teas sold on a daily basis, mainly from dried chamomile flowers.
