Introduction
Triphenyl phosphite (TPhP) is a versatile chemical compound that serves as a critical element in various industrial and chemical processes. Triphenyl phosphite, the molecular formula is: (C6H5O)3P, molecular weight is 310.28.
Chemical property
Triphenyl phosphite is a colourless or little yellow oily liquid; when being lower than 16 ℃, it is a colourless or little yellow monoclinic crystal and little phenol stinks and has an irritating smell, is arranged, and has corrodibility, water-insoluble, can be dissolved in organic solvents such as ethanol ether chloroform[1].
The discovery of a new, apparently amorphous phase, named glacial phase, in supercooled liquid triphenyl phosphite (P(OC6H5)3, TPP) has focused considerable attention because TPP was then considered to exhibit the phenomenon of “polyamorphism”, the existence of two or more amorphous phases. The focus of the intensive research by many groups and by means of a variety of experimental techniques (calorimetry, NMR, X-ray, Raman and neutron scattering) has mostly been centred on the nature and origin of the glacial phase of TPP. Nevertheless, the descriptions of the glacial phase are still debatable.
In addition to the already known conventional crystalline phase, which melts at 299.1 K, it has been found that TPP can crystallize in another polymorphic phase by Baran et al. The new polymorph can be obtained from the liquid phase due to direct cooling from the room temperature up to 245 K, where it is held for 15 min and then heated up to 270 K. At 270 K, crystallization of the new polymorph occurs, which melts at 291.6 K[2].
Uses
Triphenyl phosphite can be used as the oxidation inhibitor and the stablizer of many polymkeric substance, with many phenolic antioxidants good synergism is arranged, and also can make the auxiliary antioxidant of polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, polystyrene, ABS resin etc. Triphenyl phosphite is an auxiliary antioxidant and has a light stabilizing effect, mainly applicable to polyvinyl chloride, polyethene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyester, the ABS resin, epoxy resin, the antioxidant stabilizer of synthetic rubber, etc., and can be used for polrvinyl chloride product and make sequestrant, when being main stabilizer with the metal, cooperate this product can reduce the harm of metal chloride, the transparency that keeps goods, and inhibition colour-change, it also is a kind of good chemical intermediate, with halogenated flame retardant and usefulness, can bring into play the fire retardant antioxidant effect, and have light stability concurrently, can be used as synthetic alkyd resin and polyester, this product is mainly the raw material of resin, also can produce the pesticide intermediate trimethyl phosphite.
Triphenyl phosphite is a celluosic resin, Vinylite, natural rubber, elastomeric flame retardant resistance extender plasticizer. The evaporation rate is low, has good transparency, flexibility, and obdurability, and also has certain flame retardant resistance; Be the plasticizing and the physics softening agent of nitrocotton, cellulose acetate (sheet base), Resins, epoxy, synthetic plastics, polyvinyl chloride, nitrile rubber; And the uninflammability surrogate of camphor in the viscose fiber; Be suitable for film, synthetic glass, engineering plastics etc.
