Medicinal Uses
L-Carnosine is a naturally occurring beta peptide compound with a wide range of important physiological functions including antioxidant, anti-aging and neuroprotective effects. L-Carnosine is used in the treatment of autism and learning disabilities. It is also used to prevent or treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), aging, eye diseases, diabetes complications such as nerve damage, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and liver and kidney problems.L-Carnosine is essential for normal bodily functions such as proper functioning and development of the heart, muscles, brain, kidneys and other organs.
Mechanism of Action
L-Carnosine is a dipeptide molecule composed of β-alanine and histidine. It may help prevent kidney and nerve damage in diabetics by preventing damage caused by protein glycosylation. In addition, it has significant free radical scavenging capacity in vitro, reducing levels of oxidative stress and inhibiting the release of inflammatory factors, which in turn exerts neuroprotective effects. In individuals with autism, L-Carnosine helps to improve behaviour, social interaction, communication and vocabulary, as well as language comprehension. The mechanism may be that it prevents cognitive decline and enhances neurological function in children with autism by inhibiting β-amyloid. It helps reduce the accumulation of beta amyloid, a protein that forms brain plaques associated with Alzheimer's disease.
