Is Rabeprazole more effective compared to omeprazole and pantoprazole?
Jun 11,2024
Yes. Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) with potent and long-acting inhibition of gastric acid secretion. Studies have shown that Rabeprazole (20 mg) provides better control of peptone meal-stimulated gastric acid secretion after the first dose and after the eighth daily dose compared to omeprazole (20 mg). The onset of inhibition of gastric acid by rabeprazole was more rapid and the steady-state reduction in peptone meal-stimulated gastric acid secretion was greater. Furthermore, in a comparative study of the efficacy of rabeprazole and pantoprazole in controlling nocturnal gastric acid secretion and intragastric acidity, it was confirmed that on day 1, oral rabeprazole inhibited gastric acid excretion to a greater extent and for a longer period of time than pantoprazole, and that intragastric pH was significantly higher with rabeprazole than with pantoprazole for the first 8.3 hours. In summary, the efficacy of Rabeprazole is to some extent superior to omeprazole and pantoprazole.
