Honokiol is a biphenol compound and one of the main active ingredients of Magnolia officinalis. The active ingredients of Magnolia officinalis are mainly phenolic compounds (mainly magnolol and honokiol) extracted from the root bark and branch bark of Magnolia officinalis. 

Magnolol and honokiol have the pharmacological effects of prolonging central muscle relaxation, inhibition of the central nervous, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiulcer, antioxidant, antitumor, hormone regulation, and antidiabetes .    

Effect of Honokiol

Honokiol has broad-spectrum antibacterial properties, shows potential in preventative health by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, providing neurological protection, and regulating glucose; in mental illness by its effects against anxiety and depression; and in helping regulate stress response signaling. It also has a very high clinical application in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.
