溶于水、乙醇。溶液為橙黃色帶綠色熒光。pH值為8.4~10.4則無熒光。能鑲嵌于兩個相鄰的堿基對之間,使部分雙螺旋DNA松開,該兩個堿基對的距離拉大一倍。這樣的DNA復制過程中,會使DNA鏈增加或缺失一個堿基,造成移碼突變。Colour Index Number 46005 用作熒光指示劑,腫瘤細胞及細菌、核酸染色劑及移碼突變的誘變劑。 吖啶橙是一種熒光色素,吖啶橙激發(fā)濾光片波長488nm。阻斷濾光片波長515nm。吖啶橙與細胞中DNA和RNA結(jié)合量存在差別,可發(fā)出不同顏色的熒光(即著色特異性),這是由于DNA是個高度聚合物,吸收熒光物質(zhì)的位置較少,發(fā)綠色熒光,而RNA聚合度低,能和熒光物質(zhì)結(jié)合的位置多,故發(fā)紅色熒光。
