Orexin B is a peptide derived from the precursor of proteolytic amino acids, prepro orexin, and is composed of 28 amino acids. Orexin B is encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 17q21. In radioligand binding studies, Orexin B has a higher affinity for OX2 receptors. Compared to human sequences, Orexin B, rat, and mouse have two amino acid substitutions.
