有氯化氫氣味，具溶解性。加熱則揮發(fā)，約在430℃時升華。在水中分解成氧氯化鉍，能溶于鹽酸、硝酸、無水乙醇、丙酮和乙酸乙酯。 制造鉍鹽，有機反應(yīng)催化劑，高純材料。 Bismuth(III) chloride may be used as a catalyst in the following processes: · Alcoholysis, acetolysis and hydrolysis of epoxides to form the corresponding β-alkoxy and β-acetoxy alcohols and diols. · Preparation of thiiranes from oxiranes using ammonium thiocyanate. · Three component coupling of carbonyl compound, amine and dialkyl phosphite to form α-amino phosphonates. · Allylation of secondary benzyl alcohols with allyltrimethylsilane. · [4 + 2] cycloaddition between dienes and α-carbonyl ethylenic dienophiles.
