Huwentin XVI is a pain relieving peptide derived from Ornithoctonus huwena, which contains 39 amino acids and three pairs of disulfide bonds. It is a highly reversible and selective mammalian N-type calcium channel (IC50 is approximately 60 nM) antagonist. Huwentin XVI has no effect on voltage gated T-type calcium channels, potassium channels, or sodium channels.
