The p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK) is a Ser/Thr kinase, originally isolated from lipopolysaccharide-stimulated monocytes. It plays a crucial role in regulating the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin-1.¹⁾ Therefore, blocking this kinase may offer an effective therapy for the treatment of many inflammatory diseases. Doramapimod (BIRB-796) is a highly potent inhibitor of p38 MAPK that blocks TNFα release in LPS-stimulated THP-1 cells.²⁾ Furthermore, doramapimod is also used in regenerative medicine area.
