U 73343 is an inactive analog of the putative phospholipase C antagonist U 73122. Phospholipase C is a class of membrane-associated enzymes, which plays an important role in signal transduction pathways by cleaving phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate into diacylglycerol and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate, which serve as second messengers. Therefore, U 73343 can be used as a negative control of U 73122 for elucidating the role of phospholipase C in a variety of biological events such as gastric acid secretion and hormone-stimulated calcium signals.?
