69% With sulfur; potassium hydroxide; In dimethyl sulfoxide; at 130℃; for 24h;Sealed tube; General procedure: A mixture of benzamidine hydrochloride (0.5 mmol), benzyl chloride (0.5 mmol), sulfur powder (0.375 mmol), KOH (1.5 mmol) and dimethyl sulfoxide (2.0 mL) was placed in a sealed pressure vessel (25 mL) containing a magnetic stirring bar. The tube was capped and stirred in a preheated oil bath at 130 C for 24 h. After the mixture was cooled to room temperature, the resulting solution was diluted with ethyl acetate (25 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (3 × 10 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered. The filtrate was concentrated, and the residue was purified by column chromatography on SiO2 (petroleum ether / dichloromethane, 30:1) to give 1,3,5-triazines (82% yield).
