REVIEW A specific inhibitor of steroid Type II 5-reductase, an intracellular enzyme that converts the androgen testosterone into 5-dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Finasteride is used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern baldness (MPB).
