REVIEW Coenzyme B12 is one of the active forms of vitamin B12. As a nutritional supplement, it is available in tableted form, but not in injectable form. It has been used therapeutically to treat vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 derivatives are also used to treat cyanide poisoning, and hereditary deficiency of transcobalamin II. Vitamin B12 consists of a class of chemically related compounds (vitamers), all of which have vitamin activity. It contains the biochemically rare element cobalt.
