Toluene diisocyanate (TDI, CAS: 26471-62-5) is an organic compound with the formula CH3C6H3(NCO)2. Of the six possible isomers, two are primarily in commercial use: 2,4-TDI (CAS: 584-84-9) and 2,6-TDI (CAS: 91-08-7). 2,4-TDI is generally produced as a single isomer, but TDI is used commercially as a mixture of 80%/20% or 65%/35% (the ratio of 2,4- to 2,6- isomers). In 2000, the global TDI production was about 1.4 million tons, accounting for 34.1% share of the international isocyanate market, second only to MDI.
