Sodium bromate is an optically active colorless crystal at room temperature, isocrystalline with sodium chlorate, chemical formula NaBrO3, is a strong oxidizing agent, and will react violently with reducing agents such as sulfur and phosphorus. It is used as a perm agent, a chemical agent, an analytical agent, and is mixed with sodium bromide to dissolve gold. When heated, it decomposes into sodium bromide, releasing oxygen:

2NaBrO3 → 2NaBr + 3O2

At room temperature, bromine disproportionates in sodium hydroxide to form sodium bromide and sodium bromate:

3Br2 + 6NaOH → 5NaBr + NaBrO3 + 3H2O

The reverse reaction of the above reaction occurs by adding acid to the mixed solution of sodium bromate and sodium bromide.

Storage conditions: the warehouse is ventilated and dry at low temperature, light loading and unloading, and stored separately from organic matter, reducing agent, sulfur, phosphorus inflammables and food raw materials

Vapor pressure: 1 mm Hg (806 °C)

Usage:

1. Mainly used in the preparation of inorganic chemical products, phenolic determination of chemical reagents. It is also commonly used as an oxidizing agent, laboratory bromine generator, cosmetic cold ironing agent. It is used as a wool finishing agent in industry, and is also used for the extraction and purification of precious and heavy metals.

2. Used as an analytical reagent and oxidant, perm agent, mixed with sodium bromide as a gold dissolving agent.
