Description: Sildenafil citrate is primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) and to a lesser extent, pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Sildenafil works by inhibiting the enzyme PDE5, which is found predominantly in the corpus cavernosum tissue of the penis. The inhibition of PDE5 leads to an increased level of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), resulting in smooth muscle relaxation and enhanced blood flow to the corpus cavernosum.
