- Lithium aluminium hydride (LiAlH4) is a chemical compound used as a reducing agent in organic synthesis  .

- Its molecular weight is 37.95 g/mol and its molecular formula is Li[AlH4] .

- Its structure consists of a tetrahedral aluminium atom surrounded by four hydride ligands .

- Its melting point is 150 °C, but it decomposes before reaching this temperature .

- Its appearance is a white solid, but commercial samples are usually gray due to impurities  .

- It reacts violently with water, producing hydrogen gas and heat  . It should be handled in dry and inert conditions  .

- It is used to reduce esters, carboxylic acids, amides, and other functional groups to alcohols, alkanes, and amines  .

- It is also a potential material for hydrogen storage, due to its high hydrogen content and low decomposition temperature .
