Definition
1, 4-butenediol is colorless liquid at room temperature and pressure, soluble in water and most organic solvents. It is a polar molecule in which two hydroxyl functional groups can interact with water molecules to form hydrogen bonds. 1, 4-butenediol can undergo many organic reactions, such as esterification, etherification, alkylation and oxidation. In addition, it can also participate in polymerization reaction as a monomer to prepare polymer materials such as polyester.
Uses
1, 4-butenediol is a pesticide and pharmaceutical intermediate, which is used in the synthesis of organochlorine insecticide endo-sulfan.
It is mainly used as an intermediate to produce pesticides, agricultural chemicals and vitamin B6, and a small amount is used in polymer production.
Used as a plasticizer of alkyd resin, a crosslinking agent of synthetic resin, a fungicide, etc., can also be used to make nylon, medicine, 1, 4-butanediol and so on
