White crystalline powder in nature.

Melting point 173-174 ℃.

Soluble in hot water, insoluble in cold water, easily soluble in ethanol, ether, benzene, chloroform, and acetic acid. It reacts with ferric chloride in a reddish purple color.

Used as an intermediate in dyes and pharmaceuticals.
