Along with aspirin (sc-202471), sodium salicylate is an anti-inflammatory compound that binds to and inhibits IKK β. Sodium salicylate has been shown to reduce ATP binding in vitro and in vivo. Sodium Salicylate is an inhibitor of c-Jun and Cox-2 and an activator of p38.

It is used in medicine as an analgesic and antipyretic. Sodium salicylate also acts as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and induces apoptosis in cancer cells and also necrosis.
