Physical and chemical properties: 

1-octene-3-ol is an aliphatic unsaturated alcohol, the appearance is colorless to light yellow oily liquid, with mushroom, lavender, rose and hay aroma. It is insoluble in water and soluble with organic solvents such as ethanol.

Synthesis: 

TCCA (0.12g, 0.5mmol) was added to a mixture of tetrahydropyranyl ether (5mmol) in CH3OH (25mmol). Stir the mixture at room temperature for the appropriate reaction time (Table 1). TCCA: After the reaction (GC or TLC) is complete, CH2Cl2 (50mL) is added to the reaction mixture. The resulting mixture was washed with Na2S2O3 aqueous solution (10%, 10mL), decanted, and the organic phase was dried with anhydrous MgSO4. The high yield hydroxyl compound 1-octene-3-ol was obtained by evaporation of solvent under reduced pressure. The spectral data (IR, NMR) of the isolated products are the same as those reported for real samples.
