解説
アロールート，クズウコン科（APG分類：クズウコン科）の常緑多年草。和名はクズウコン（葛鬱金）で、ニシインドアロールートの名もある。葉は円みを帯びた細長い三角形で、長さ30センチメートルほど。長い葉柄があり、何枚もの葉が地面から束狀に出る?；ㄇoは2メートルほどに伸び、白い3弁の小花が開く。肥大した地下莖からは、粒子の細かい、良質(zhì)のデンプンがとれる。消化がよいので病人食や幼児食に最適で、菓子や料理に使用される。原産地は南アメリカの熱帯地域。西インド諸島を中心に、熱帯各地でデンプン採取用および現(xiàn)地人の食用に栽培されている。なお、カンナ科のクイーンズランドアロールート（ショクヨウカンナ）、ショウガ科のヒガシインドアロールート（ホソバウコン）など本種のほかにもアロールートとよばれる植物は數(shù)種あり、いずれも地下の根莖からデンプンをとる。
使用
