acetyl angiotensinogen (1-14),porcine, (c87h125n21o21) is a peptide with the sequence ac-asp-arg-val-tyr-ile-his-pro-phe-his-leu-leu-val-tyr-ser-oh, mw= 1801.05. the protein encoded by the angiotensinogen gene is known as pre-angiotensinogen or angiotensinogen precursor. pre-angiotensinogen is expressed in the liver and is cleaved by the enzyme renin in response to lowered blood pressure(1). the resulting product, angiotensin i, is then cleaved by angiotensin converting enzyme (ace) to generate the physiologically active enzyme angiotensin ii. angiotensin ii is involved in maintaining blood pressure and in the pathogenesis of essential hypertension and preeclampsia(2). mutations in the gene are associated with susceptibility to essential hypertension and can cause renal tubular dysgenesis, a severe disorder of renal tubular development. defects in the gene have also been associated with non-familial structural atrial fibrillation and inflammatory bowel disease.figure1 formula of acetyl angiotensinogen (1-14),porcinefigure2 the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system | [References]
