Hazard Information | Back Directory | [Description]
4-Benzoylphenyl acrylate is a monomer that can be polymerized by a variety of methods. It is the most common monomer used in radiation-curing polymers, which are activated by exposure to ultraviolet light. This monomer is also found in thermally curable polymers, and as a photoinitiator in polymerization reactions. | [Uses]
4-Benzoylphenyl acrylate can be used to produce polymeric films with excellent mechanical properties and thermal stability. The functional groups on this molecule allow it to react with other molecules, and its high viscosity makes it suitable for use as an adhesive or sealant. Polymerization of 4-benzoylphenyl acrylate produces long chains of acrylic acid esters, which are crosslinked by intramolecular hydrogen bonds. These bonds increase the strength of the polymer film and reduce water vapor permeability. This compound has been used to create patterned polymer films. |
